Web 2.0 is a commonly misconcieved idea. It is a concept. Nothing more. Web 2.0 is a term coined by the company O'Reilly. The idea behind it is that Web 2.0 means that the web is more important today than ever, with online applications and file sharing and interaction. A good example being a website such as the one we are currently on. The best examples of Web 2.0 websites are Wikipedia, Flickr and Blogger. With Web 1.0 these sites would have been Brittanica online, oFoto and personal websites. Like I said, It is an idea, not a technology. ;)
Check out O'Reilly's official explanation below...
Whats the benefit of web 2.0 versus what we currently have?
Its just a buzzword, just like ajax is at the moment.
Hard to define what web2.0 is, social interaction, ajax enabled sites (sites feel responsive and work like a desktop app, good example is GoogleMaps), bright gay colors, rounded corners, gradients etc etc.
Reply:you can conncet your wireless usb adapter to it and they say your internet is a littel bit faster then just using the none 2.0 usb and you can use it for a dig cam/webcam and the picis much better
Reply:I have mainly heard it as a synonym for AJAX based sites.
Done right, it can be very cool. Google Maps is a great example of what you could never do in HTML before AJAX.
