I need adobe ebook reader 2.2(not 2.0),adobe web site replaced it white something else, where do I can find it?

You can use Adobe Reader 6.0 and above to read your eBooks. That's the replacement for eBook reader. But, if you really want eBook reader 2.2, I found it here: http://p2s.newhua.com/down/eBookReaderIn...

I develop project in vb .net 2.0 in web .i want load in on-line what r process.?

The most important thing is your server(hosted or otherwise) needs the MS Framework 2 installed. You can't run this on a Linux server. You will need a MS OS on the server that will host your app.

If thats loaded, copy using the FTP ability in VS or use your own FTP software. I use my own MS's is crappy.

Copy all of your files in your local application folder, from your hard drive to the SAME folders on the server hard drive.

If you are developing a database app and have used SQL lite be prepared to move your database to SQL because to the best of my knowledge there are very few if any providers that offer SQL lite to be used.

ASP.NET 2.0 Visual Web Developer 2005 Express question?

I already asked this question yesterday but I added more info and I'm afraid no one can see my new questions. Anyway, what I'm trying to do is have a listings page (listings.aspx) which shows records. One of the columns is "Details" and once clicked, the user gets taken to Details.aspx. On this Details page, I want to add a Photos field which will display the photos of a house.

But the problem is I can't populate the table with the photos. The data type I've selected for Photo is "image". I can't put any data in there. I get the following error msg:

Invalid value for cell (row 1, column 15). The changed value in this cell was not recognized as valid.

.Net Framework Data Type: Byte[]

Error Message: You cannot use the Result pane to set this Field data to values other than NULL.

Type a value appropriate for the data type or press ESC to cancel the change.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

What is the best way to index thousands of documents for use in a ASP NET 2.0 web site?

I want to be able to add/delete documents, (mainly PDF's) allow my users to add documents in a members based service. What is the best way to index these documents as they are uploaded/donated/or already exist in certain folders? Basically I am looking for a program of some sort that allows me to index them into a SQL DB or XML file where I can then write code to allow searching of the indexed information and pull up the correct documents. The basic need is what is the best tool to use to index the content so I have a db to pull from in search queries based on keywords so I can show the most relevant documents to their search text. Is there a program or plug in of somekind that already indexes PDF's etc and places them into a db or xml format so I can use this info to create my own custom search script/results layout so they can open these docs if they find what they need?

What is the best way to index thousands of documents for use in a ASP NET 2.0 web site?
google and others do it! use google on your own server!
Reply:This is a wide topic.

The documents can be stored in a variety of ways. One of them is storing them as binary data in MS SQL. This offers advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are offered in terms of security and the fact that SQL Server offers transaction support. The disadvantage is that retrieving the data will be slow since SQL Server pages data in 8 KBs, hence retrieving a document from SQL Server will result in lots of input / output being generated.

Another approaches is store the documents on an FTP and simply store references of your documents in the DB. FTP's are much faster %26amp; they are built exactly to support file transport.

There are lots of products that offer document management %26amp; workflow management. You can also try to use one instead of trying to reinvent the wheel.

Hope this helps.
Reply:Microsoft Indexing service. a default service found on all windows 2003 server OS packages would be the best way to go.

There are a lot of sites out there. If you are looking for Free Hosting, good luck. But for cheap solutions, I've heard good things about http://www.DiscountASP.NET . They are recommended by Microsoft.

Here are some others that are supposed to be pretty good:

Also, I've heard GoDaddy is possibly going to be taking up ASP.NET hosting soon (Don't quote me on this, but that's just what I heard, so you might check into that.)

Manufacturer's website to download the drivers for your exact OS.
Reply:I looked everywhere for the drivers for your webcam and I can't find them anywhere. I tried several sites where I always find drivers when I am fixing a computer.

I would try plugging in the webcam to a usb port and see if windows recognizes it and installs the software automatically.

One thing I did read when looking for the driver: your webcam will only work with USB 2.0. It will not work with USB 1.1 at all.

How to secure a asp.net 2.0 web application?

You can start by reading the following articles:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues...

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306590

How to secure a asp.net 2.0 web application?
Question is quite general. Depends on what do you want from security. there is a bunch of server controls for user authentication and authorization and built-in mechanism of Roles, Users and Profiles. All this makes development of security stuff pretty straightforward and easy. On MSDN you can find a lot of articles, describing how to do it.

and of course you have to secure networks, server, database connections etc.

How can I send an Email in my web site using ASP.NET 2.0?

I have written a code in asp.net 2.0 and tested that in a web site to send emils to users, but it fails. The error message is:

Not Local host yahoo.com, not gateway.

How can I solve this problem. Do I need Authentication? If so, how shaould I do it? The Code is:

Dim objSMTP As New SmtpClient("mail.mydomian.com")

Dim mailSubject As String = txtSubject.Text

Dim mailBody As String = txtBody.Text

Dim objMailMsg As New MailMessage("support@mydomain.com", txtTo.Text)

objMailMsg.Subject = mailSubject

objMailMsg.Body = mailBody

objSMTP.Send(objMailMsg)

objMailMsg.Dispose()

How can I send an Email in my web site using ASP.NET 2.0?
The SMTP server that you specified in the first line may need authentication. Many SMTP servers don't need authentication but only send mail for certain people, such as an ISP's server that only sends mail for its customers. You'll need to contact the owner of that SMTP server.

You may have removed this from the code you posted, but you haven't given the MailMessage a From or To address.

How do you upgrade SharePoint 2.0 Web Parts?

Trying to figure out how to upgrade SharePoint 2003 web parts?

How do you upgrade SharePoint 2.0 Web Parts?
This is a complicated process and will require some knowledge of computer science and other key areas.

Windows SharePoint Services uses a different strategy for upgrading a page depending on whether or not it has been customized (unghosted).

Windows SharePoint Services tracks whether a Web site was created through a Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 (\web server extensions\60) or Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 (\web server extensions\12) site definition. A Web site can be upgraded by virtue of having an update definition that translates front-end site definition files that have not been customized. After the upgrade process, any references to uncustomized front-end files are mapped from the \web server extensions\60 directory to \Web server extensions\12.

Not every Web site is upgraded from \60 to \12 at the time of initial upgrade. Any existing site definitions that do not have upgrade paths will still function, but continue to point to their \60 pages. Also, a Web site that is updated from \60 to \12 may still have Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 pages (in other words, no master page, no Web Part manager) that have been customized and thereby stored in the database.

At the time of parsing and rendering a page, Windows SharePoint Services determines which Web site the page is associated with, and therefore, whether uncustomized (ghosted) files on the front-end Web server are Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 or Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 pages are not directly compatible with Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 standards. These pages run in a compatibility mode if the site has not been upgraded, but after an upgrade definition is applied and the site is upgraded, Windows SharePoint Services assumes that the pages are fully compatible with Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0. This means, for example, that they have a Web Part manager if they contain Web Part zones, that they have valid control IDs, and that they are associated with a master page.

Page Compatibility

In Windows SharePoint Services 2.0, customized pages in the database were parsed using the Windows SharePoint Services parser, which had different tolerances from the ASP.NET parser. If a page contains malformed markup language, it may be that while the page worked in Windows SharePoint Services Windows SharePoint Services 2.0, it will not work in ASP.NET and the new version of Windows SharePoint Services because of differences between the parsers.

The new Windows SharePoint Services parser addresses a subset of known breaking issues in page markup, including the following:

Invalid control IDs that are not compliant with ASP.NET, such as when a name is invalid because the ID begins with a number or unsupported character, the ID is an empty string, or the ID is not unique with respect to other IDs on the page. This modification may break the page in the case where client-side script relies on the former ID names.

Known attributes inserted in the page by Windows SharePoint Services (for example, __Preview, __Error, __Web PartId, WebPart) are handled by implementing the SharePoint IAttributeAccessor interface on Web Parts.

Removal of Trace attributes.

Addition of appropriate directives for registering tags like %26lt;WebPart:WebPartZone%26gt; or %26lt;SharePoint:Theme%26gt;.

Windows SharePoint Services does not attempt to fix the following breaking issues on pages:

Unknown attributes on controls.

Presence of %26lt;object runat=server%26gt; tags.

Databinding expressions present inside attributes (%26lt;% ... %%26gt;).

Windows SharePoint Services stores a version integer for each customized page in the database. When a customized page is browsed, SharePoint checks the version number of the page. If the version number corresponds to an un-upgraded Windows SharePoint Services 2.0, SharePoint fixes these various breaking issues and updates the page behind the scenes.

Version 2 Layouts Pages in Version 3

Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 layouts pages typically refer to out-of-the-box layout files that are installed to the \Web Server Extensions\60\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\Locale_ID setup directory. Because Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 layouts files are now stored in a language-independent folder, Windows SharePoint Services automatically sets up a redirect that navigate users from /_layouts/Locale_ID/nameofoldpage.aspx to /_layouts/newpage.aspx.

Layout pages in general are keyed to use a master page that is set through the Microsoft.SharePoint.SPWeb.MasterUrl property. For Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 site definitions, this property should refer to a master page that retains a Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 look and feel.

Upgrading Web Parts

Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Web Parts continue to function in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, although they require a few changes in their configuration. If you create a new Web application to host a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 installation, the web.config file for that installation must be updated to include additional safe control and code access security (CAS) policy settings.

Although the general level of CAS restrictions remains the same in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, the Windows SharePoint Services policy files have been modified to make them contemporary for ASP.NET 2.0. For this reason, it is not generally possible to re-use Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 CAS policy files in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. The best option is to make a copy of the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 wss_minimaltrust.config file and incrementally add permissions as necessary

I assume this is part of a upgrade. Remember to avoid errors by upgrading all areas of your current enviorment.

Gosh Darn Web Cam!! TriQuest USB 2.0 Web Cam!!?

Well today I went to Big Lots and bought myself a $15 Web Cam (the only one they had) and the Check out lady said she had one and it worked well. So I took it home and put in the disk and installed everything the way they said, and then I plugged the cord into the spot on back of computer (just like picture in manual) and plugged in the headset. Well then I decided to try out the software that was just installed to make a video but it said somethin like "Cannot connect to video" But it does record the sound. Grrr. So I went back to the Big Lots and asked if I could exchange it to try out another one in case it was damaged and so got home went through whole process and same things happening!! GRRR! Well just wondering if anyone here has gotten this web cam or knows more about computer than I do and can help me out. Thanks in advance.

I'm paying an AJAX JAVA J2EE programmer $150 an hour to work on a web 2.0 website. Is this realistic?

He's been working for months and my bills have been over 100 grand, which is more than I budgeted. Is there a way I can get him to agree to simply give me a flat rate instead of continuing to charge me by the hour. Our original contract was by the hour, but how would you recommend I negotiate a flat rate now?

I'm paying an AJAX JAVA J2EE programmer $150 an hour to work on a web 2.0 website. Is this realistic?
That sucks, you are getting cheated $100/hour, you can get $50/day freelance programmers at websites like http://getafreelnacer.com/
Reply:Yeah that is way too much. If you're just looking to hire some guy to develop for you part time, you can find a very competent programmer for as low as $30 an hour.

Think of it this way: a full time senior level developer, as in the person who is in charge of many other developers working on different projects and who makes all the final design decisions, will make $100k-$150k a year working for a large software company. So if my math is right that maxes out at around $75 / hour. It doesn't sound like you're a large software company.

Otherwise, if you're just looking for some guy to build and support a website for you, you should be paying the guy a flat fee to do the job. This is how everyone I know who builds websites on the side does it. Even with Ajax and Java, which really aren't that complex or rare, having a website built, hosted, and supported should be well under $10k depending on its size.

But if it's taking this guy months to build a website at $150 an hour, I would just say he's not living up to expectations, fire him and find someone else. If there's any reason to pay someone that much money it's to have the job done promptly, and months is not promptly. The guy knows he's taking you to the bank, and that you're over paying him.

Look for developers in your area on http://www.craigslist.com. Also, if you live near a University with a good computer science program, go put up fliers on campus; you can probably find a programmer who is as good, if not better, and will do it for peanuts.
Reply:Wooooooooooooow $150 an hour either he is reeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaalllllllllyyyyyyyy good or you have a lot of money. For that amount you could get a company to do your work.
Reply:HOLLY CRAP!!! :-O !

Maybe you should just sack him and pay somebody else a much more reasonable salary.
Reply:"AJAX JAVA J2EE"

"Social website and web search website with advanced algorithms."

People charging lower rates probably never be able to develop such an web site. It's not that easy.

BUT HE MUST GIVE YOU A COMPLETE BREAK UP OF THE MODULES AND TARGET COMPLETION TIME OF EACH MODULE AND THE TOTAL PROJECT.

AS SOON AS A MODULE IS DELIVERED HE MUST DEMONOSTRATE THAT THE MODULE IS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY.

HE MUST PAY VERY HEAVY PENALTIES IF HE FAILS TO DELIVER ANY MODULE OR THE WHOLE PROJECT WITH IN THE AGREED TIME.

THERE SHOULD BE OTHER TERMS AND CONDITIONS IN THE LEGAL AGREEMENT (CONTRACT) TO PROTECT YOUR INTERESTS.

HE CAN NEVER DRAIN YOUR MONEY AS LONG AS HE WISHES.
Reply:You should pay him a flat rate per month as long as he hits all the criteray points that you should require.
Reply:Well what exactly is he doing for you? Designing a website? Designing an application? Or is he doing daily work for you? If its more of a project, i would charge a flat rate for the completion of the project.

I do AJAX and ASP.Net development for a company, and im pretty sure i get charged 80$/h for our clients.

$150 and hour is way over priced

I just spent over 100 grand on programmers in the USA to build a Web 2.0 website.?
Fantastic, very professional Web 2.0 templates are available online from respectable vendors for around USD $60-$90. You can get them customized by spending anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. Over $100k for a site is the craziest thing I have seen on Answers for a long time!

I have two sites and the most I have ever spent is $299. They are not web 2.0 but they are still getting the job done.

I don't know what to say - I am sorry this happened to you.

Today I was planning on posting a question asking if I should invest in professional site makeovers - but I AM NOT spending $100k.

You don't need tp pay for a second opinion - just check out the template vendor and webmaster stes. Most of them provide an online pricelist.
Reply:seems extremely overpriced - what did you have included? - basic html programming is very easy to self teach

The site I'm doing the redesign for is www.comonetwork.com. It's a how-to website where users can go to view and publish how-to tutorials. So I want to make sure that the design of the site makes it clearn to the visitor what the site is exactly, as soon as they see it. Thanks!

Where can i find a good business plan example for the launch of a web 2.0 application?

Web 2.0 is relatively recent phenomenon that business plans for these companies are not made publicly available.

I suggest you check out the Web 2.0 companies and search for articles or stories about them. Go2Web20 website http://www.go2web20.net/ has a flash page containing logos of all Web 2.0 companies. Then you can start reading more about each one.

But for a prepared sample business plan for any of these companies, I doubt you'd find any that is publicly available.

For example, Newsweek's “Putting the ‘We’ in Web” (April 3, 2006 issue, pages 47-53) article http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12015774/sit... talks of Web 2.0 and how some of the leading companies such as YouTube and Flickr got their start. You can learn more about the business of these Web 2.0 companies by reading this article as well as many others on the Web.

Do you think that the supposed "democratisation of knowledge" on Web 2.0 is a good thing?

I am thinking of the effects of having user-generated content presented as "fact", when it has not necessarily been generated by an expert.

Is it a good thing to think that knowledge is just a matter of opinion and that everybody should have the right to be considered an expert, no matter how flawed their reasoning?

Do you think that the supposed "democratisation of knowledge" on Web 2.0 is a good thing?
Here's the real crux: How do you tell a fact from a falsehood?

If your only means of doing so is by trusting only people with established credentials that 'prove' they know what they're talking about, then you are not only going to miss out on a LOT of good ideas developed by people with direct experience instead of credentials, but you will probably have just as much contradiction between so-called experts as you would with total amateurs.

If, on the other hand, you develop the capability to filter the truth from the overwhelming morass of opinion and lies, then democratizing contributions can only help. Since you will know how to tell good information from bad information, almost any amount of information will bring the possibility of adding without substantially subtracting.

Yes, that DOES mean more work for you. But perhaps it's work you should have been doing anyway... even with all the so-called experts.
Reply:Well, I think the utopian form of Web 2.0 is that people take the knowledge with "a grain of salt." They have access to more information and use their judgement and skepticism to find the best available. They take into account where the information comes from and go to more traditional sources to confirm facts.

Whether this is actually happening is another story of course.

I think in the long run, it is a good thing. Some subjects don't require a top down system of information. Some do. I don't think someone is going to start building bridges after reading an article about bridges on Wikipedia. An article about literary theory however is perfectly suited to many interpretations.

Can someone give me a more comprehensive explanation of Web 2.0?

web 2.0

Web 2.0, a phrase coined by O'Reilly Media in 2004,[1] refers to a supposed second generation of Internet-based services—such as social networking sites, wikis, communication tools, and folksonomies—that emphasize online collaboration and sharing among users. O'Reilly Media, in collaboration with MediaLive International, used the phrase as a title for a series of conferences and since 2004 it has become a popular (though ill-defined and often criticized) buzzword among technical and marketing communities.

alluding to the version-numbers that commonly designate software upgrade, the phrase "Web 2.0" hints at an improved form of the World Wide Web.

In the opening talk of the first Web 2.0 conference, Tim O'Reilly and John Battelle summarized key principles they believed characterized Web 2.0 applications:

* the Web as a platform

* data as the driving force

* network effects created by an architecture of participation

* innovation in assembly of systems and sites composed by pulling together features from distributed, independent developers (a kind of "open source" development)

* lightweight business models enabled by content and service syndication

* the end of the software adoption cycle ("the perpetual beta")

* software above the level of a single device, leveraging the power of The Long Tail.

Earlier users of the phrase "Web 2.0" employed it as a synonym for "Semantic Web," and indeed, the two concepts complement each other. The combination of social-networking systems such as FOAF and XFN with the development of tag-based folksonomies, delivered through blogs and wikis, sets up a basis for a semantic-web environment. Although the technologies and services that make up Web 2.0 lack the effectiveness of an internet in which the machines can understand and extract meaning (as proponents of the Semantic Web envision), Web 2.0 may represent a step in that direction.

As used by its proponents, the phrase "Web 2.0" refers to one or more of the following:

* The transition of web-sites from isolated information silos to sources of content and functionality, thus becoming computing platforms serving web applications to end-users

* A social phenomenon embracing an approach to generating and distributing Web content itself, characterized by open communication, decentralization of authority, freedom to share and re-use, and "the market as a conversation"

* A more organized and categorized content, with a far more developed deeplinking web architecture than hithertofore

* A shift in economic value of the Web, possibly surpassing that of the dot com boom of the late 1990s

* A marketing-term used to differentiate new web-based firms from those of the dot-com boom, which (due to the bust) subsequently appeared discredited

* The resurgence of excitement around the implications of innovative web-applications and services that gained a lot of momentum[citation needed] around mid-2005

Many find it easiest to define Web 2.0 by associating it with companies or products that embody its principles.[citation needed] Tim O'Reilly gave examples in his description of his "four plus one" levels in the hierarchy of Web 2.0-ness:[2]

* Level-3 applications, the most "Web 2.0", which could only exist on the Internet, deriving their power from the human connections and network effects Web 2.0 makes possible, and growing in effectiveness the more people use them. O'Reilly gives as examples: eBay, craigslist, Wikipedia, del.icio.us, Skype, dodgeball, and Adsense.

* Level-2 applications, which can operate offline but which gain advantages from going online. O'Reilly cited Flickr, which benefits from its shared photo-database and from its community-generated tag database.

* Level-1 applications, also available offline but which gain features online. O'Reilly pointed to Writely (now Google Docs %26amp; Spreadsheets) (gaining group-editing capability online) and iTunes (because of its music-store portion).

* Level-0 applications would work as well offline. O'Reilly gave the examples of MapQuest, Yahoo! Local, and Google Maps. Mapping applications using contributions from users to advantage can rank as level 2.

* non-web applications like email, instant-messaging clients and the telephone.

Examples of Web 2.0 (other than those cited by O'Reilly) include digg, Shoutwire, last.fm, and Technorati.

Time bar of Web 2.0 buzz words. shows the age of some buzzwords claimed for Web 2.0 or its dependencies.

.

Commentators see many recently-developed concepts and technologies as contributing to Web 2.0, including weblogs, linklogs, wikis, podcasts, RSS feeds and other forms of many-to-many publishing; social software, Web APIs, Web standards, online Web services, and many others.

Proponents of the Web 2.0 concept say that it differs from early Web development (retrospectively labeled Web 1.0) in that it moves away from static web-sites, the use of search engines, and surfing from one website to the next, towards a more dynamic and interactive World Wide Web. Others argue that later developments have not actually superseded the original and fundamental concepts of the WWW. Skeptics may see the term "Web 2.0" as little more than a buzzword; or they may suggest that it means whatever its proponents want it to mean in order to convince their customers, investors and the media that they have begun building something fundamentally new, rather than continuing to develop and use well-established technologies.[4]

On September 30, 2005, Tim O'Reilly wrote a seminal piece ne 2.0, with example sites and services attached.

Earlier web applications or "Web 1.0" (so dubbed after the event by proponents of Web 2.0) often consisted of static HTML pages, rarely (if ever) updated. They depended solely on HTML, which a new Internet content-provider could learn fairly easily. The success of the dot-com era arguably depended on a more dynamic World Wide Web (sometimes labeled Web 1.5) where content-management systems served dynamic HTML web-pages generated on-the-fly from a content database more amenable than raw HTML-code to change. In both senses, marketeers regarded so-called "eyeballing" as intrinsic to the experience of the web, thus making page-hits and visual aesthetics important factors.

Proponents of the Web 2.0 approach believe that web usage has started increasingly moving towards interaction and towards rudimentary social networks, which can serve content that exploits network effects with or without creating a visual, interactive web-page. In one view, Web 2.0 sites act more as points of presence or user-dependent web-portals than as traditional web-sites. They have become so internally complex that new Internet users cannot create analogous web-sites, but remain mere users of services provided by specialist professional experts.

Access to consumer-generated content facilitated by Web 2.0 brings the web closer to Tim Berners-Lee's original concept of the web as a democratic, personal, and DIY medium of communications.

While interested parties continue to debate the definition of a Web 2.0 application, some suggest that a Web 2.0 web-site may exhibit some basic characteristics. These might include:

* "Network as platform" — delivering (and allowing users to use) applications entirely through a browser.[5][6]

* Users owning the data on the site and exercising control over that data.[7][5]

* An architecture of participation and democracy that encourages users to add value to the application as they use it.[5][1]

* A rich, interactive, user-friendly interface based on Ajax[5][1] or similar frameworks.

* Some social-networking aspects.[7][5]

The concept of Web-as-participation-platform captures many of these characteristics. Bart Decrem, founder and former CEO of Flock calls Web 2.0 the "participatory Web"[citation needed], and regards Web-as-information-source as Web 1.0.

] Technology overview

The complex and evolving technology infrastructure of Web 2.0 includes server-software, content-syndication, messaging-protocols, standards-based browsers with plugins and extensions, and various client-applications. These differing but complementary approaches provide Web 2.0 with information-storage, creation, and dissemination capabilities that go beyond what the public formerly expected of web-sites.

A Web 2.0 website typically features a number of the following techniques:

* Ajax-based rich Internet application techniques

* Non-Ajax-based rich Internet application techniques

* CSS

* Semantically valid XHTML markup and/or the use of Microformats

* Syndication and aggregation of data in RSS/Atom

* Clean and meaningful URLs

* Extensive use of folksonomies (in the form of tags or tagclouds, for example)

* Use of wiki software either completely or partially (where partial use often grows to becoming the complete platform for the site)

* Weblog publishing

* Mashups

* REST or XML Webservice APIs

] Innovations associated with "Web 2.0"

Web-based communities

Some web-sites that potentially sit under the Web 2.0 umbrella have built new online social networks amongst the general public.[citation needed] Some of these sites run social software where people work together.[citation needed] Other sites reproduce several individuals' RSS feeds on one page.[citation needed]

The syndication and messaging capabilities of Web 2.0 have fostered, to a greater or lesser degree, a tightly-woven social fabric among individuals.[citation needed] Arguably, the nature of online communities has changed in recent months and years.[citation needed] The meaning of these inferred changes, however, has pundits divided. Basically, ideological lines run thusly: Web 2.0 either empowers the individual and provides an outlet for the "voice of the voiceless";[citation needed] or it elevates the amateur to the detriment of professionalism, expertise and clarity.[citation needed]

] Web-based applications and desktops

The richer user-experience afforded by Ajax has prompted the development of web-sites that mimic personal computer applications, such as word processing, the spreadsheet, and slide-show presentation. WYSIWYG wiki sites replicate many features of PC authoring applications. Still other sites perform collaboration and project management functions. Java enables sites that provide computation-intensive video capability. Google, Inc. acquired one of the best-known sites of this broad class, Google Docs %26amp; Spreadsheets, in early 2006.

Several browser-based "operating systems" or "online desktops" have also appeared. They essentially function as application platforms, not as operating systems per se. These services mimic the user experience of desktop operating-systems, offering features and applications similar to a PC environment. They have as their distinguishing characteristic the ability to run within any modern browser.

Numerous web-based application services appeared during the dot.com bubble of 1997–2001 and then vanished, having failed to gain a critical mass of customers. In 2005 WebEx acquired one of the better-known of these, Intranets.com, for slightly more than the total it had raised in venture capital after six years of trading.

[

] Rich Internet application

Recently, rich-Internet application techniques such as Ajax, Adobe Flash, Flex and OpenLaszlo have evolved that can improve the user-experience in browser-based applications. Flash/Flex involves a web-page requesting an update for some part of its content, and altering that part in the browser, without refreshing the whole page at the same time.

] Server-side software

The functionality of Web 2.0 rich Internet applications builds on the existing Web server architecture, but puts much greater emphasis on back-end software. Syndication differs only nominally from the methods of publishing using dynamic content management, but web services typically require much more robust database and workflow support, and become very similar to the traditional intranet functionality of an application server. Vendor approaches to date fall under either a universal server approach, which bundles most of the necessary functionality in a single server platform, or a web-server plugin approach, which uses standard publishing tools enhanced with API interfaces and other tools..

] Client-side software

The extra functionality provided by Web 2.0 depends on the ability of users to work with the data stored on servers. This can come about through forms in an HTML page, through a scripting language such as Javascript, or through Flash or Java. These methods all make use of the client computer to reduce the server workload.

] RSS

Main article: RSS (file format)

The first and the most important step (according to one point of view) of evolution towards Web 2.0 involves the syndication of site content, using standardized protocols which permit end-users to make use of a site's data in another context, ranging from another web-site, to a browser plugin, or to a separate desktop application. Protocols which permit syndication include RSS (Really Simple Syndication — also known as "web syndication"), RDF (as in RSS 1.1), and Atom, all of them flavors of XML. Specialized protocols such as FOAF and XFN (both for social networking) extend functionality of sites or permit end-users to interact without centralized web-sites. (microformats for more specialized data formats.)

Due to the recent development of these trends, many of these protocols remain de facto (rather than formal) standards.

] Web protocols

Web communication protocols provide a key element of the Web 2.0 infrastructure. Major protocols include REST and SOAP.

* REST (Representational State Transfer) indicates a way to access and manipulate data on a server using the HTTP verbs GET, POST, PUT, and DELETE

* SOAP involves POSTing XML messages and requests to a server that may contain quite complex, but pre-defined, instructions for the server to follow

In both cases, an API defines access to the service. Often servers use proprietary APIs, but standard web-service APIs (for example, for posting to a blog) have also come into wide use. Most (but not all) communications with web services involve some form of XML (eXtensible Markup Language).

Web Services Description Language (WSDL) (the standard way of publishing a SOAP API) and the list of web service specifications for links to many other web service standards, including those many whose names begin 'WS-'.

What database should I choose for scaling a web 2.0 application? 10 million users - mostly select on tables.?
It depends. If you are looking at extremely high transaction volume on small amounts of data (hundreds of thousands of rows or less), MySQL should do the job just fine. However, if you anticipate having to run many transactions on huge volumes of data (many millions of records), and need really fast response times, go with Oracle.

Also, make good use of caching. Effective caching your data in the business layer will cut down on your database transaction volume by a huge amount.
Reply:MySQL or Postgres will do just fine.
Reply:Follow the rest of the LAMP architecture and go with mysql. Look into which internal tweaks and dbs to maximize performance ie innodb vs any other, based on how it will be used mostly (transactional, read-only etc). You are going open source with L)inux A)pache M)ySQL and P)hp. With Oracle you would be spending some serious money. Stick with the freebies and twink it based on how it will be used.

What software should I use to develop a web 2.0 application?

Acutally, Web 2.0 is not just the new Web browsers, it's about a move toward social networking and collaborative information / communities.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_2.0

Any old language works fine. Most beginners prefer PHP, because it tends to be more forgiving of coding errors, easier to code, easier to get support and, best of all, free.

What software should I use to develop a web 2.0 application?
Web 2.0 is just a buzz word, it really just encompasses the latest browser technologies (IE 6+, FF 1.0+, Safari) , and makes use of their newer features. There are many choices the most popular break down like this:

PlatForms:

-----------------

Open Source

LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySql PHP) this is the easiest (and least expensive way)/

Linux + Apache : Most web hosting companies support and have this setup

MySql: Is the standard when it comes to Open Source Database(s)

PHP: Is the de facto programming language to tie everything together, very well supported and extensive community.

Commerical.

Microsoft's .NET Platform (ASP.NET etc) or ColdFusion CFM

Development Software:

-----------------------------

Dreamweaver and or MX Studio, that encompasses everything. Pricey yes, but for something you use everyday , worth it. Check eBay for older versions and save a few bucks.

Browser Libraries:

-------------------------

After you decide the platform and development tools, then you need to focus on Client side libraries to perform cool browser effects (aka. Web 2.0 effects), and use AJAX.. Here are some popular ones are: jquery.com, moo.fx , Flash

Don't forget to test all this stuff on IE 6, 7 , FireFox , Opera and on a MAC...

Also look to oswd.org or cssbeauty.com for WEb 2.0 designs and sites

What is the best type of points system for web 2.0 sites ?

Not sure what you mean....and for the record, web 2.0 doesn't mean a thing...it just basically means glossy images/text...use of 3D and fancier graphics....that sthe visual....the technical web 2.0 just referes to sites using RSS FEEDS, blogs, proper SEO, and other new technologies....thats it...that is all web 2.0 means...web designers HATE that term, and it makes us laugh so hard when someone askes us to design a site that is "web 2.0" In our heads...its like um, 2.0 is the only way we WOULD work, as most designers like keeping up with current web trends, standards, and technology. :)

As for a points system...if you are referring to a social networking site, or one that requires user accounts on a point system, it can be done in many ways...and is expensive to implement because of the need for a Database. It could be done w/ sql and the use of PHP....

Which is the best programming language for Web 2.0?

"Web 2.0" is a bit of a buzzword - it means different things to different people. For many people it's all to do with user-generated content - in which case the programming language doesn't matter, it's all to do with allowing people to upload and share their own content. Of course you will need a dynamic site which means some sort of server-side language such as PHP, Python or ASP.Net, and a database.

The other side of Web 2.0 is the whizzy interactive effects that you see on sites like this one. These are all done using a technology called AJAX - another buzzword - and this means Javascript and XML. Javascript is what runs on the user's browser, and it uses XML to communicate with the server to get updates without refreshing the entire page. The best way to use AJAX is via an existing framework, such as the Yahoo UI - http://developer.yahoo.com/yui - where most of the work is already done for you.

Which is the best programming language for Web 2.0?
Web 2.0 is defined by AJAX. That means javascript is the language you need.

Call Verizon. I did it.

If you wanted to build a commercial web 2.0 app with the intent to sell, what framework/platform would you use

Assume you want complete legal control of all of your code and you are not intending to open source any of it, but your goal is to make money with the site and possibly sell the business and its software assets at a later point, what framework would you create the app with? LAMP, Ruby on Rails, .NET, J2EE, other. Consider development time, cost, talent, flexibility, features, and the possibility of interferance by the provider of the framework (such as Microsoft with .NET or 37Signals with Rails).

If you wanted to build a commercial web 2.0 app with the intent to sell, what framework/platform would you use
There is a lot to consider regarding your question, and it probably should be ten or twenty different questions. The key to a good business plan is to divide the problem and conquer each piece. Anyhow, that being said, here goes nothing...

As far as control goes, you need to read the licensing. For the most part with open source, the components must remain open source, but the overall application you write will belong to you to license as you wish. In that sense there is little difference between closed and open source. The biggest difference is whether your code is easily reverse engineered. That is not easily preventable even if you are handing over compiled code. From your description, that does not seem like it will be a risk.

When building said applications, its a matter of knowing what you are looking for and focusing on your developers skill sets. For example, if you enjoy PHP, symfony is a rapid application development tool that might be useful. It utilizes an object relational mapper, which in my humble opinion should facilitate maintenance of the application over time and help you maintain consistent transaction support. Django might be a good alternative for the Python programming language. Spring/Hibernate used to be one of the better alternatives for a lightweight app in Java, but today's Java uses EJB3 which solves much of the same use-case and is built into Java.

As for .NET, Microsoft has done some solid stuff with web programming, but obviously it has a vendor lock in issue. You should carefully consider the costs involved, such as using a windows server, an sql server, etc.

With open source, you pay a bit more for developer skill in lui of these software installations ( or in some cases purchase support packages). As such you would pay a person to maintain your database, which might be mysql, oracle, etc and your application server, which might be jboss, tomcat, apache, etc. These might run on a Linux or Unix variant, or you might choose a windows server. If you go windows, you will have to pay for the server since windows limits concurrent connections in non-server variants.

Assuming you are a small group looking to start something up, I would advise you to use open source as Web 2.0 technologies tend to be available as open source. You will also want a repository and to consider the concept of continuous integration.

Good luck.

How can i win money with my web 2.0 blog?

http://wwwhatsnew.blogspot.com

i have google adsense, but only one of 1000 click on the banner.

How can i win money with my web 2.0 blog?
Ok, this may take around a month or two, but has great reward. Its simple start blogging. Post at least 2 to 3 blog entries every day, be active and make some blogger friends on net. Tell them to link your site on theirs. More the links to your website, more beneficial it would be for you. Slowly, as your site gets more links, start posting ads from either google adsense or Yahoo networks. After 1 or 2 month, go to http://www.business-opportunities.biz/pr...

If yourblog is worth good money, the ad companies would like to post the ads on your website with much greater cash to give. Best of luck from my side.

I know people who make around 200 a day by maintaining various web logs ( not site administrators, but people like you and me) and earning money through the ads
Reply:Just use adsense or else what you can do is write a blog post about a certain subject that interests you and they pay you about $2~$10 per post. They're http://payperpost.com and http://creamaid.com . Although the way they activate are quite different the result of earning some money seems the same. Report It

Reply:you can't.
Reply:I clicked several times on your ads!!

I think ads on blogs are not beneficial for the bloggeres but only for google and its customers. So do not expect to earn a good money out of that.

How am I billed for my Mobile Web 2.0 on my Verizon phone?

I looked on Verizon's FAQ on the site and it said that it was $5 a month AND deducted out of my minutes, which is which...or is it both?

How am I billed for my Mobile Web 2.0 on my Verizon phone?
It depends on your calling plan. 1) If you have the vcast vpack it is included and will not take away from your minutes and will not incrue any other data charges 2) If you are on the america's choice plan (it is probally your price plan if you have had the plan for at least a few months), it will charge you $5 per month for the mobile web feture and it will take away from your minutes 3) if you have one of the newer nationwide plans, mobile web is included with your calling plan but it will charge $1.99 per mb rounded up to the next highest mb for accessing the mobile web............. yes the same rules apply if you are just browsing or accessing your email
Reply:if thats what it said online then you just answered your own question.

Can somebody tell me the different between web 2.0 (social network marketing) vs. Search Engine Optimization?

Marketing via social networking sites can generate a large amount of traffic in a short amount of time. This revolves around you writing articles for your website. Those articles are then either submitted by you, or someone else who had read it to there social networking site. Some social sites work better then others depending on what it is you are writing about. You repeat this process over and over again with writing good articles and having them submitted. You also want to try and build up a profile on your favorite social networking site. This adds great credibility to not only your article but as to the comments you leave. The more you submit good content, leave great comments the more you will be known on that site. By having a power profile, you have gained the readers respect by posting great things and those people will visit your site more often to read what else you have written. Now if you have a website and it never changes, you are never adding new content to it, then social network marketing will not do that well for you in my opinion.

With SEO you are tailoring your website around not only your readers, but to the keyword(s) you are trying to rank for. You are trying to build up your backlinks either by directory submissions, having a great write-up that others link back to or even buying links on other sites. Even with SEO it is a good idea to add new content to your site, have content written about your industry. This gives you more to work with and a better chance at attracting other people's attention to link to what you have written about. There is a lot more to SEO then most think, the to do list can be quite long for most. I believe that writing good articles and posting them on your site should be a part of SEO. This will give you more content for the search engines to spider through and gives you a better chance at getting more backlinks from reader who liked what you wrote.

In a nutshell social network marketing revolves around how much you interact on a socail networking site (digg, reddit, etc.) to build up your profile with the rest of the readers. Once you have done this (takes a good amount of time and dedication) you will see a lot more traffic to your site on a daily basis. Writing a great article will drive traffic to your site for a few days if it hits the front page, but you will not make the front page every day. By having a power profile you will gain readers who will visit your site everyday to see what else you have discussed. This is the essence of social marketing, you are not only marketing your articles, but your profile as well. Many companies use these social networking sites to help there clients establish more backlinks to there site. As we all know backlinks are a big factor in your rankings, the more the better.

Can somebody tell me the different between web 2.0 (social network marketing) vs. Search Engine Optimization?
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results, or the higher it "ranks", the more searchers will visit that site. SEO can also target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.

Web 2.0 can refer to a perceived second generation of web-based communities and hosted services — such as social-networking sites, wikis, and folksonomies — which aim to facilitate creativity, collaboration, and sharing between users.

Search Engine Optimization has a bigger scope since since social netwrok marketing is only one of the seo strategies taht can be used to improve website rankings and increase website traffic

Does anyone has a proper definition of Web 2.0?

Good afternoon, I am a librarian with the Houston Public Library. I am pasting below two definitions of Web 2.0 taken from the American Library Association's Web site. I believe you will find them useful.

"Wikipedia defines Web 2.0 as “Web 2.0 is a term often applied to a perceived ongoing transition of the World Wide Web from a collection of Web sites to a full-fledged computing platform serving Web applications, like Gmail, to end users. The proponents of this thinking expect that ultimately Web 2.0 services will replace desktop computing applications for many purposes."

The definition I might give goes something like this: Web 2.0 is the next incarnation of the WWW, where digital tools allow users to create, change, and publish dynamic content of all kinds. Other Web 2.0 tools syndicate and aggregate this content. We will all be publishers and creators of our own information and entertainment channels with these applications."

And, remember, you can always contact your local library with questions!

I'd like to know more about web 2.0 and above all its relationship with viral advertising. can you help me?

I will thank you for any help such as links, books or anything

I'd like to know more about web 2.0 and above all its relationship with viral advertising. can you help me?
The core of web 2.0 is the interactivity between service and visitor. The ability to influence the site in use (Like this one) is critical.

Viral advertising is still unpredictable. That's part of its charm, of course, but we're still learning its operands. Go try and learn and share your findings with the rest of us. That's web 2.0 in action.

What is the web 5.0? and which the difference with web 2.0?

Its just a buzzword! Most people can't define what web 2.0 is and some are trying to come up with what web 3.0 should be (something along the lines of semantic web). So, Web 5.0 is out of question at this point in time.

What is the web 5.0? and which the difference with web 2.0?
The Web 5.0 is probably many many years away. Web 2.0 happened when we started using it for Xanga, Facebook, MySpace, ect. Its just how the web grows up. Another thing that caused the Web 2.0 phase was websites like Second Life and how advertisements are delivered. Web 5.0 is going to be amazing when it comes. I cant even imaging what we will be doing come Web 5.0.
